Former Twitter San Francisco Headquarters Removes Brightly Flashing X Sign

The brightly flashing “X” sign that was installed on the San Francisco headquarters of the company formerly known as Twitter has been removed just days after it was put up.

The San Francisco Department of Building Inspection received 24 complaints about the unpermitted structure, including concerns about its structural safety and illumination.

The company, now known as X following a rebranding effort by Elon Musk, had previously removed the Twitter sign and iconic blue bird logo from the building. However, the “er” at the end of “Twitter” remained due to the pause in the sign takedown because of permit issues.

The city of San Francisco opened a complaint and launched an investigation into the giant “X” sign that was installed on top of the downtown building as part of Musk’s rebranding of the social media platform.

This chaotic rebranding of Twitter’s building signage mirrors the haphazard transition of the Twitter platform itself to X. While the X logo has replaced Twitter in many parts of the site and app, remnants of Twitter still remain.

Representatives for X have not yet responded to requests for comment.
